Arguably, the most famous architectural reference book of the 17th and 18th Century, Palladio's I Quattro Libri dell' Architettura was a major influence on Christopher Wren, Inigo Jones and the Adam brothers, James and Robert.
The English language edition of Palladio's I Quattro Libri dell'Architettura was a huge success and went into multiple editions. The direct impact of Palladio's text was also upon building patrons, for these expensive volumes were out of the reach of most builders, who could consult them only briefly in a gentleman's library.
