Notes
A technique involving the manual incision of a metal plate with a tool, called a burin, which is a fine chisel with a lozenge-shaped tip. Incisions are made at various angles and with different pressure, in order to achieve degrees of width and darkness when printed. The engraved plate is covered with ink then the excess is subsequently removed before printing onto paper. This method for making prints was first used in fifteenth century Germany.
