Title
The Lepers Cast Forth From the City
Description
"During the war the many experts who daily instructed the public upon the right way of winning the war were divided into two camps, the Westerners and the Easterners. Some asserted that the war would be decided only on the Western front, and that all efforts should be concentrated there; others, that the weakest part of the line was in the East where Turkish moral was very low, and that a collapse in that quarter would have its repercussion across the Balkans. To a certain extent the Easterners were correct, for it was Turkey which first gave Germany serious trouble by her constant demands for food and help. General Allenby's smashing blows, culminating in the entry into Jerusalem, completely demoralised the Turk, and with the fall of Baghdad, the Eastern dream of the Wilhelmstrasse had been completely shattered. Turkey was in the wilderness, and with his master Wilhelm, like lepers were cast forth from city to city, nowhere lamented."
