The United States entered the war in April 1917. A British and a French soldier carry a wounded American soldier, demonstrating their care for each other through the war as individuals and as members of allied nations. Despite the horrific events occurring during the war, Allied soldiers remain exemplars of strength and compassion in Raemaekers' prints. While these men represent each of their countries, their individualised depiction also presents a portrait of humanity during the war.
The
Louis Raemaekers Foundation
have published a book of his works entitled, 'Louis Raemaekers - with pen and pencil as a weapon'.
