Pelham Puppets: Policeman
Description
A wooden string Pelham puppet. The toy has painted facial features including pink skin, a black moustache, blue eyes and hat strap. The puppet is designed to look like a policeman. Wearing a navy blue policeman's uniform with 'PC' embroidered on the fabric with white thread in the collar. On the puppet's head a felt navy blue hat with silver foil badge and black wool hair glued to head.
The puppet has pink plastic hands and black painted wooden feet. The body sections are linked by metal hoops for movement and a hinged jaw so the mouth can move and round pink metal hoops for ears. Multicoloured strings are attached to wood handling sticks. The puppet comes with original packaging. The yellow cardboard box has coloured illustrations of different Pelham Puppets on the sides and back. The front of the box is covered with clear cellophane so the puppet can be seen when inside the box.

Pelham Puppets are one of the best-known puppet makers in the U.K. Puppets sold included witches, snake charmers, and later, characters such as Snoopy and the Wombles, providing endless possibilities for shows.
From 1955 onwards, each puppet came in a distinctive yellow box, with instructions on how to operate the puppet.
