Title
"My Avowed and Unconditional Ally"
Description
"Nothing has been more detestable in the character of the Kaiser Wilhelm than his blasphemous speeches delivered with prophetic fire to his troops. There never existed any doubt in his mind that God was not on his side, and in all allusions to the Deity it was clearly understood that the Emperor of Germany was the senior partner in that 'divine far-off event' towards which Kultur was directing the people of the Fatherland. ... In this cartoon, Raemaekers has presented the modern illustration of those verses. The New Testament of Germany, written in blood and iron, claimed Christ as the great exemplar, but the position of Christ and Christianity is one of slavery to a godless policy. For in the last five years Christ, bound and mocked at, has once more been the victim of political and national policy. The modern centurion has led Him forth to a second crucifixion, up a steeper Calvary."
