Sealing wax stamp for William Flockhart, Seaford Cottage, Trinity, 1850-1860
One metal sealing wax stamp belonging to William Flockhart, partner to John Duncan, chemists working in Edinburgh under 'Duncan Flockhart & Co.' and associated with the use of chlorofrom as an anaesthetic, particularly used during pregnancy and chemist to Queen Victoria, 1855. The seal reads 'William Flockhart/ Seaforth Cottage/ Trinity' with a botanical border. On the reverse is a raised area of rusty metal where the handle would once have been attached.
