"This cartoon is dated 14 October 1915, the day of Bulgaria's declaration of war against Servia [Serbia]. The Bulgarians had held back for a week after the German bombardment of Belgrade, and the artist hints here at King Ferdinand's hesitation to commit himself and his country's fortunes till the Germans had prepared the way."
