Most often encountered rising in song from the ground, the Skylark, and other ground nesting birds (Grey Partridge and Meadow Pipit), are now sadly much rarer in Holyrood Park than they were 20 years ago. They need the abundant insect life of the Park to feed their young, and are very prone to disturbance by careless walkers and uncontrolled dogs.
They can be seen from April to September over the high ground of the Park.
