Notes
Before the arrival of digital technology, photography involved the use of film, subjected to exposure to light and to a variety of chemical procedures. In itself film had superseded the use of photographic paper. A digital image is obtained through the storage of picture elements or 'pixels' in a computer memory. Pixels, or the smallest individual element in an image, send out electrical signals in proportion to the light they receive and are then converted and stored in a grid, which is capable of further manipulation or compression. Digital cameras and scanners are used in the production of digital images but this technology is continually evolving.
