The photographs in this exhibition were kindly loaned to us by Bill Hall for our digital collections. It contains images dating from the early 1900s to the 1980s, taken across Scotland.

Brought up in Edinburgh he has collected many family photographs and items covering his mother's early years and his own boyhood.

Many in East Lothian still recall buying their fish fresh from the harbour pier. When the boats sailed in to the harbour in the morning the fish was simply laid out on the cobbles for sale. Local customers and fishwives could then gather round.
