Miss Turnball
Description
The photograph shows a full length portrait of a girl, Miss Turnball, who is standing, turning the pages of an open book which is placed on a carved wooden writing desk. Her hair is tied back and she is wearing a floor length dark dress with buttons and decorative braiding and fringes. Around her waist is a belt fastened with an ornamental clasp. She wears earings and has a brooch at her neck.

Miss Turnball of 21 Grange Loan, Edinburgh. The house at Grange Loan belonged to Mrs Samuel Brown.
David Doull was a professional photographer at 72 Lauriston Place from 1865 - 1867. He was born in Edinburgh in 1831 and was one of the founder members of the Edinburgh Photographic Society in 1861. In 1970 Edinburgh Public Libraries purchased Mr Doull's collection of 319 glass negatives from Mr Frank Seymour, one in a chain of successors to Mr Doull's shop at Lauriston Place.
