Old Surgeons Hall is situated on the south side of Surgeon's Square, which lies immediately to the south of High School Yards in Edinburgh. It was built by James Smith in 1697 for the Royal College of Surgeons who occupied the building until they moved to their current, grander premises on Nicolson Street in 1832. The building has had various uses since then, including serving as the city's Fever Hospital, and is now home to Edinburgh University's Faculty of Social Sciences Graduate School.
