The accompanying text in the volume reads:
"37. Back view of the houses on the north side of the High Street between Byers (sic) close & Advocates Close. The house on the right with a semi-hexagonal part was the mansion of Adam Bothwell, Bishop of Orkney who officiated at the marriage of Queen Mary and the earl of Bothwell."
