A dramatic moment before the storylines are resolved. The illustrated scene is a conflict and misunderstanding between Viola in disguise, she stands in the centre with her hat off, Olivia, dressed in beautiful clothing, and Duke Orsino on the left. Olivia tells the others that she married Cesario (Viola’s male alter ego). The priest, exiting the church on the right, confirms this. But Viola denies and is visibly confused. The Duke, who is in love with Olivia and thought Cesario was his confidante, looks to the man (woman in disguise) in betrayal. Both Olivia and Orsino hold out their arms to Viola, which emphasises her centrality, although Olivia has her palm turned upward and invitingly, while the duke has his downward, as if he was pushing the young lad away. Viola takes a step away from Olivia and towards Orsino, indicating her love for him.
