Carters transported goods by cart or wagon and literally made the wheels of Britain go round. They worked their horses in fields, towns, in the docks, mills and railways. Anywhere there was something to transport. The Carters showed intense pride in their horses, there would be a stable in every neighbourhood. By the time the Sixties came along the horse and cart started disappearing from our streets.
