Gordon Castle is situated roughly 8.5 miles east of Elgin, Moray. George Gordon, the second earl of Huntly, built a castle on the site in the mid 15th century. This was later extended by his grandson. In 1769 the castle was substantially remodelled by John Baxter for the fourth Duke of Gordon. The castle was sold to the government in 1936, and declined in the subsequent decades. Much of the castle was demolished after it was bought back by the Gordon-Lennox family, leaving some of the 18th century structure and an earlier six-storey tower.
