Liberton Cottage Hospital was opened in 1906 as an extension to the Royal Edinburgh Hospital for Incurables, (formerly the Longmore Hospital). By 1948, when the NHS took over the service the site had become known as the Longmore and Liberton Hospital. Longmore closed in 1991, but Liberton continues today and provides medical care for elderly patients.
