The painter David Roberts (1796-1864) was photographed by Hill on his visit to Edinburgh. He also worked as a scene painter for several theatres in Glasgow, Edinburgh and London, and is the author of 'Views in the Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt and Nubia' (1842-1849).
