Illustrated title page for "A Lover's Quarrel"

While the individuals appear in pleasant demeanour, a small dog chases a rabbit through the 'Q' in 'Quarrel' which gives a slight nod to the squabble to come. The accompanying text reads 'It was a very beautiful evening.' This image was published as a series of four colour plates in the 'Summer 1884' edition of The Graphic. Due to the growing popularity of this strip, Caldecott had to submit the plates to the engravers more than six months in advance.
