Title
Opening page for 'Mr. Chumley's Holidays' in Randolph Caldecott's '"Graphic" Pictures'
Description
The page is divided into two pictures, the story text begins in between them. In the top image two women in long gowned coats are looking at an open, oversized book on a clifftop overlooking the sea. The text reads: "Mr Chumley's Holidays: Being his sketches therein and Notes thereon". A man is scrambling underneath one of the pages; another man, his head under an umbrella is holding the page open. A young girl is holding the hand of one of the young women.
The second picture shows a crowd scene. Men and women in Victorian dress gather along a seafront promenade. There is a bandstand, a band playing within it, and buildings behind.
