Title
The Second Napoleon
Description
"Father is it still a long way to the Beresina!"
The artist in this cartoon (9 September 1915) is celebrating the unexpected Russian victory near Tarnapol and Trembowla, where forty thousand German and Austrian prisoners were taken about this date. With the escape of the Wilna army in the north, the Russians were soon to be in a better strategic position. The artist's allusion to the Beresina is a good example of Hope taking Time by the forelock."
