Morningside was once a village on a main road south from Edinburgh. In the 1850s it was no more than a row of thatched houses and a blacksmith's forge and beyond the Jordan Burn was open countryside. Nowadays it is predominantly residential with a collection of small traditional shops, restaurants, supermarkets, a library and hospitals.

3 Morningside Park is the premises of the Morningside Club. Established in 1889 and originally the Morningside Liberal Club whose remit was similar to today's Community Council. Now a social club.
