Morningside was once a village on a main road south from Edinburgh. In the 1850s it was no more than a row of thatched houses and a blacksmith's forge and beyond the Jordan Burn was open countryside. Nowadays it is predominantly residential with a collection of small traditional shops, restaurants, supermarkets,a library and hospitals.
Morningside Parish Church ,1836, was the first church in the area. Prior to this the local residents had sermons in the Old School House or walked to St Cuthbert's Church at the West End of Princes Street.
Bore Stone : It is said that the Royal Banner was placed in this stone prior to the troops gathering on the Boroughmuir before going to the battle of Flodden in 1513.
