Morningside was once a village on a main road south from Edinburgh. In the 1850's it was no more than a row of thatched houses and a blacksmith's forge and beyond the Jordan Burn was open countryside. Nowadays it is predominantly residential with a collection of small traditional shops,restaurants,supermarkets,a library and hospitals.

Bore Stone : It is said that the Royal Banner was placed in this stone prior to the troops gathering on the Boroughmuir before going to the battle of Flodden in 1513.
