Morningside was once a village on a main road south from Edinburgh. In the 1850s it was no more than a row of thatched houses and a blacksmith's forge and beyond the Jordan Burn was open countryside. Nowadays it is predominantly residential with a collection of small traditional shops, restaurants, supermarkets,a library and hospitals.
Albert Terrace was built in 1863 and named after Queen Victoria's husband Albert. On each end of the Terrace a heron stands above the roof balustrade.
