Ewan Williamson, a firefighter out of Tollcoss Fire Station, died on July 12th 2009 while fighting a blaze in the Balmoral Bar, Dalry Road. His efforts helped to save the lives of around 20 people but he was trapped in the blaze by a falling floor and could not be saved. Mr Williamson was the first firefighter to be lost in the line of duty in Edinburgh fire service's 185 year history. He was buried with full service honours and was carried on a fire engine through the city on a route lined by a guard of honour made up of firefighters from around the country and hundreds of members of the public who came to pay their respects.
