Martin Chuzzlewit was Dickens' sixth novel and written after a self-imposed break from novel writing for a trip to America and Canada.
Seth Pecksniff is a hypocritical and devious character who throws out young Martin Chuzzlewit to gain the favour, and ultimately the money of old Martin Chuzzelwit.
