Biography
Claud Lovat Fraser was born in London in 1890. He spent only a short time studying at Westminster School of Art before setting up his own studio. His favoured media was reed and steel pens, watercolour and ink. He produced many illustrations for books, broadsides and greeting cards and from 1917, theatre textile designs. Fraser served in the army during the First World War but after being caught in a gas attack at Ypres he returned to Britain and took up a post creating visual propaganda for the war office. He died in 1921 after an operation, aged only 31.
