Front of east portion of Waverley Hotel
Description
The front of the Waverley Hotel in Edinburgh has many windows, on the walls are stone carvings some of which are of human heads. On ground level there are shops, one with a window display, others with advertisements. Horse-drawn carts and a carriage can be seen through a metal railing fence. Under the main hotel sign is another displaying a Temperance Hotel.

Complete annotation below item reads 'Front of east portion of Waverley Hotel planned by R. Morham architect about 1873 and pulled down Oct 1885'
Robert Cranston's Temperance Hotel was established at 43 Princes Street around 1848. It became the Waverley Hotel a few years later, changing its name again to the Old Waverley Hotel in 1868 after Cranston established another hotel nearby.
