The Waverley Market, designed by Robert Morham, was built in 1872 to house Edinburgh's fruit and vegetable market. However, due to other uses of the Waverley Market the sale of fruit and vegetables returned to Market Street. This indoor market was lit by huge skylights among the formal gardens on the roof. It was demolished in 1974 and replaced by Waverley shopping centre, later called Princes Mall.
