Title
The demolition of Dumbryden Primary School, Wester Hailes
Description
This is a rear view of two of Dumbryden Primary School's flat roofed units. They are separated by a short concrete wall and open gate from a further unit. Paths connect each of the buildings. The line created by the concrete wall is continued by metal fencing. Unkempt grass is visible in the foreground. Lying flat on the grass are two large metal fences. More of this type of fencing is visible in the distance which forms the final barrier of the demolition site. There are some flats in the background.

Dumbryden Primary School was opened in 1963. There were nine classrooms. In addition the school had an infant and upper school hall, music room, infant and upper school library, resource base, an information technology suite, dining room and a large playground. There was also a nursery.
In 2004 the council considered the falling rolls across the city and voted to close Dumbryden Primary and the nearby Hailesland Primary and united the pupils in a new school at Canal View. There was local unhappiness at the decision.
Inspite of boarding up windows there were still incidences of vandalism and fire raising. In 2010 the school was finally demolished.
Prospect Housing Association bought the land and plan to build housing on the site.
