The Yokohama brothel house pictured on the postcard was known as Shin-fu-rou or god wind tower in Chinese characters. The house was commonly called "No.9" and we can see the no. 9 on the postcard. The name no. 9 came from the previous address of the brothel. In the lower left corner of postcard there is a small chair like vehicle called a jin-riki-sha (or rickshaw) which means human, power, vehicle in Japanese. This small vehicle was dragged by a man while the customer was sat on the chair. Perhaps this vehicle could be considered the equivalent of a modern day taxi. This brothel house was opened in 1884 and closed in 1958.
