Description

Two statues in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh. Within one of the arches of the Scott Monument is the seated statue of the writer Sir Walter Scott who has a dog by his side. In the foreground is the statue of the missionary David Livingston standing above the head of a lion and holding a bible in his hand.

A statue of David Livingstone, the explorer and missionary, stands in Princes Street Gardens, a short distance east of the Scott Monument. The statue is by Amelia Robertson Paton Hill, the wife of the photographer David Octavius Hill, and was shown at the Royal Academy in 1869. David Livingstone died in the country now known as Zambia in 1873.
