Melbourne Place was built in 1836 and named after the Prime Minister William Lamb (Viscount Melbourne). The buildings of Melbourne Place were demolished in 1968 to make way for new council offices. These in turn were demolished and replaced by the Missoni Hotel which opened in 2008.
