An ornately decorated archway, with gold-painted decorative carvings, and coat of arms, leads off the High Street and down a covered passageway to a cream-coloured building. Shops stand on either side of the close, while a group of people stand and sit nearby, chatting.

At the end of this close stands Tweeddale mansion, once occupied by Dame Margaret Kerr. from 1817 until 1973 the building was occupied by Oliver & Boyd publishers. It was restored in the 1980s and in 1984 became the site for the Scottish Poetry Library.
