Looking through the opening of Old Assembly Close onto the Royal Mile, Edinburgh to a well head with a cap ending in a point. At the top of the close there are directional signs, an old advertisment and a plaque.

Old Assembly Close is situated on the south side of the High Street in Edinburgh. It takes its name from the Assembly Rooms located here in the mid 18th century. The Great Fire of 1824 broke out in the close. The fire burnt for four days, destroying several buildings, including the old Assembly Rooms, and claiming 13 lives.

The High Street is the section of Edinburgh's Royal Mile that runs from George IV Bridge down to its junction with Jeffrey Street and St. Mary's Street.
