Craigmillar is an area of Edinburgh situated roughly a mile south-east of Holyrood Park. The lands previously associated with Craigmillar Castle are now occupied principally by 20th century housing estates. The area is currently undergoing significant change involving the demolition of some of this council housing.

Richmond Craigmillar Church is situated in Niddrie on the South East side of Edinburgh. Niddrie has been described as a deprived area almost since the houses were built in the 1930's. For more than 15 years the area has been undergoing regeneration and over the last fifteen years progress has been very slow. However recently houses have begun to be built close to the church and there are new people moving into the area. A new joint campus primary school has been built beside the church and this has resulted in the area around the church being populated with people once more during the day.
