Description
not see the coast at all - then we went right away up by Bear Island, through the Barents Sea & then slap down to Lapland. We are now going along quite close to the coast of Lapland - a flat uninteresting country, most bleak, with patches of snow in places. We expect to get to Archangel tomorrow.
We have just touched at Alexandrovsk - the new Russian port on the White Sea; unlike Archangel it is "open" all winter. I'm writing this "standing at attention" at my bunk, waiting for "cabin - inspection" - we the way of drills, saluting etc: - talk about soldiers! Letter bag is to be closed immediately, so I must stop for to-day - "to be continued in our next"!- /
