Cause of Accident/Nature of Accident : Falling of cheek of plate-straightening machine
Remarks : Leg broken afterwards amputated.
Attended by Dr Hunter removed to Royal Infirmary Edinr.
Raised action for damages. Case tried by Jury 22.May /84. Verdict in his
favour but appealed against by T. A. & Co. Appeal case
refused.
Settled damages £300 pounds & expenses.

Remarks :
About to speak to Master of S. L. [Steam Lighter] Inchcolm [crossed out] murren about lamps on the North Side. Contusions
of right shoulder arm side & wound on hand. Attended by Dr. Menzies.

Remarks : In going down jetty to put out lamps, supposed to have
fallen over some unprotected place.

Musselburgh for gravel& sand.
Remarks : Severe injury to body and head. Claim of £200
& expenses & compensation. Claim settled out of court of Court on 19th June in paying £50 in full of damages & expenses.
Settled for £50 in full for damages and expenses.
This book was acquired by Museums & Galleries Edinburgh in 2018. It is, as far as we know, the only surviving working document from the earliest stages of construction of the Forth Bridge.
