Document dated 1567 and signed by Mary Queen of Scots and James, Earl of Bothwell, granting London merchants ground at Newhaven for the making of salt
Paper document handwritten on both sides. Fold lines and discolouration suggest it has been stored folded. Dated 1567 (with 1576 crossed out), it is signed by Mary Queen of Scots and James, Earl of Bothwell. Text relates to the granting of ground at Newhaven to London merchants for making salt. The number 4 is handwritten on the document, and a later museum sticker has the number 62. The document has a watermark of a goat.
