Description
never-to-be-forgotten day there & most of a second day. The Forum is what I loved most, oh it is so wonderful, such a vast, historic pile, every stone of it teeming with interest. And the Coloseum - the bigness and hugeness of it all!

Standing in the arena, one was carried back to the ancient days of Nero & could almost hear the roar of the wild beasts in their glee, as they tore the poor Christians to atoms! St Peter's is v. magnificent, but too vast almost, to be impressive. A very impressive pile is the ancient monument Hadrian's Fort, which as the Castle of St Angelo, was the citadel of medieval Rome and quite near to it is a wonderfully preserved ancient building The Palazzo Borghese, now the meeting place of the Italian Senate. Then the long, narrow streets & high, gaily coloured houses.
The squares & gardens with palm trees and beautiful flowering shrubs & fountains playing; the churches, statues, yes - just "Rome" - gives one the wildest thrills.
Oh, for months & months in this ancient capital, - undoubtedly Rome must be re-visited! Naples is our next "halting place" & we should arrive there early to-morrow morning.

Feb 27th: Naples.
We arrived here early this morning, after having spent
