Monument to 78th Regiment, Edinburgh
Description
Celtic cross monument to the 78th Regiment on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. Around the base of the monument is a wrought iron fence. Inscriptions showing an elephant, stag's head and knotwork are carved in the stone.

Edinburgh Castle and Castlehill. The area is used for the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Monuments to Ensign Ewart, Earl Haig, the Duke of York, and Colonel Kenneth Mackenzie are situated around the edges of Castle Esplanade. There are also memorials to those who died in the Boer War, the Indian Rebellion of 1857 (78th Highlanders), and the conflicts of 1878, 1879, and 1880 in Afghanistan (72nd Highlanders).
