The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'Harvieston House the residence of George Cranstoun Trotter-Cranstoun, Esq., is situated in the parish of Borthwick, not far from the village of Gorebridge, Midlothian. It was originally an old house of moderate size, with very thick walls, and having the lower part arched. It has been, however, surrounded with modern additions which have turned it into a large mansion. These improvements were designed and carried out about the year 1869, by Mr Brown of Currie, for the present proprietor.'
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection, Central Library, Edinburgh.
Harvieston House is now self catering accommodation.
