Barnton Station was the terminus of the Caledonian Railways's suburban branch line from Craigleith to Davidson's Mains and Barnton. It was opened as Cramond Brig Station in 1894, but renamed Barnton Station in 1903. Barnton was developed as a 600 acre country residential estate by Sir James Maitland during the 1880s and1890s and it was Maitland who "opened" the station. It closed to passengers in May 1951.
