Founded in 1868, The Commercial Brewery at 160 Canongate was operated by Morison and Thomson until it was acquired by J & J Morison in 1877. In 1946, J & J Morison registered as a limited liability company in order to acquire the business of J Morison Inches. The company ceased trading in 1960 when it was taken over by Scottish Brewers Ltd.
