They've had no support from the Rumanians, the latter are no earthly good, they are much too apt at the game of "running away" to be of any use in this campaign.
We said good-bye to Boul-boul-mic at mid-day & came away in the cars - I was in No 7. with Carlyon - we left our old camping ground & were soon hurled in to a world of dust & flies & finally arrived at this filthy little village, where we dumped ourselves down in a farmyard, "some" farmyard too! As we left Boul-boul-mic & came through the village, the whole place seemed to be swallowed up by soldiers, horses; carts & whirling clouds of dust. A wind blew & through the wind a hot sun blazed. Everywhere horses were neighing, cows & sheep were driven in thick herds through columns of soldiers; motor cars & ambulances frantically pushed their way from place to place, & always everywhere, covering every inch of ground, from house to house, from corner to corner, was the pathetic, expectant,
dreaming, solid Russian soldier! He was simply part of the intolerable, depressing background! There can be, I'm sure, few things so bad as our sense of insecurity at
