Description
asked us to go through the clearing station & Hospital. The former was an enormous building, forms at one end for the sitting-up cases & at the other end stretchers & tables for the cot-cases. Then we went through the Hospital, a huge place, it looked about ½ a mile long!
Beds touching & all full. They only keep them 4days at this Hospital, then send them on to other Hospitals as soon as possible. The nurses & dressers all looked so fresh & clean & we felt so grubby!
We left Moscow in the evening between 8 & 9 o'cl; very sad at having to leave it all behind us.
Here we are rumbling along in our old train at about 10 miles an hour - if that! We get blacker & blacker as time goes on - undoubtedly, "The great unwashed".
Well - will continue this later as I must away & see about fodder - we take turns of doing "fatigue duty" & none of us relish the job!
19th. - Still meandering along at "break-neck" speed. We are into more civilised, at least I mean more cultivated parts, now - extensive wheat fields on all sides - but oh so monotonous. Adieu!/
