Description
Outside the Kremlin is the Red Square, where all Napoleon's guns are. We also saw 6 large guns recently captured from the Germans near Lemberg. En route for the station again, we passed "The Church of the Redeemer", the most richly decorated church in Moscow & past The Imperial University - the oldest in Russia, The Alexander Gardens, the Duma, & all along the route, fascinating old shops & houses & such interesting people - priests in their long brown robes, black hats, long hair & beards; the bearded moujik; Russian merchant in his fur cap; Greeks in red fezes; Persians with high conical caps of black sheepskin - all sorts & conditions.
I forgot to say that we sailed into Moscow station, alongside of a beautiful Hospital train full of wounded Tommies. We went over the train. It was very similar to ours - only much broader. We "lined up" opposite to a big "clearing station"- signs of war everywhere here - Moscow is a big Red X. centre. Russian Red X. nurses were floating about everywhere & the commandant introduced herself to Dr. Inglis &
