Description
loveliest colour of rich & living brown & fosters all kinds of enterprise & activity on its shores, & flows along with stately dignity; one feels its spell, it seems to live & know.We have just seen a lot of Cossack soldiers - such fine looking men - tall & thin & dark. They wear sort of pleated riding habits & go in for "waists"-indeed, some of them look very "pinched in"! They have long soft leather boots, Astrachan [Astrakhan] caps, jewelled belts & countless daggers & dirks etc:. This is a typically Russian district & all the people & costumes are so interesting.
Dr. Inglis has just told us we should get to Moscow early to-morrow morning - the programme is to breakfast, "scrub" & then sightsee. A bath once again, such a joyful prospect! The Consul is to receive us & entertain us. We feel quite like Royalties these days! I wonder if Royalty ever felt so "grubby" as the "S.W.H" -? I doubt it!!Well, no more tonight. I will finish this in Moscow - so long./
